Dois modelos de teologia política

Abstract

The range of what tradition has called political theology bears the mark of a hermeneutic dispute, of a conflict of profoundly antagonistic perspectives. From those committed to consolidating the justification of a political order from a theological point of view, to completely opposite perspectives that strive to erode the foundations of established power. However, historically, the latter ended up being hidden and marginalized in societies that, for a long time, explicitly proclaimed the union between the cross and the sword. Thus, our article intends to replace the terms of this antagonism, so often covered up by neutralizing one of its poles. And it intends to do so by recovering the tradition of Jewish messianism as a counterpoint to a political theology as a justification of power. The place of Pauline theology as a source and reference of this dispute will be widely highlighted.
