Abstract

This article analyzes the international migratory movements towards Uruguay and the legal and social aspect in which these people are received. Assuming that it is one of the world's leading countries in the issue of progressivism in migratory matters and one of the most democratic in Latin America, it was decided to investigate the laws and social initiatives regarding the insertion of immigrants in the country. In the methodological scope, a historical-normative analysis was carried out, as well as a study of social belonging from the perspective of citizenship proposed by Marshall (1967) and of social recognition, from Honneth (2003), with interviews carried out with immigrants who reside in Uruguay. Studies indicate that, despite being a geographically small country, the increase in immigrants in recent years has been driven by a friendly migration policy and a receptive and welcoming society.
